White smoke curls up from the bright areas while the picture turns dark grey so the smoke stands out.

The camera picture turns dark grey, and white smoke rises from the bright areas, curling slowly in a multi-layer flow, so a performer under the lights seems to give off smoke.

The effect reads brightness across the whole camera frame. Amount sets how much smoke there is and how far it rises, Speed sets the swirl speed, Scale sets the size of the swirls, and Threshold sets the brightness that produces smoke. The smoke still shows over transparent areas of the source.
